The Mobile Web is Here To Stay

The Mobile Web is Here To Stay

Let’s face it folks, the days of providing a singular fixed resolution website are soon to be over. With the onslaught of web capable phones hitting the market there has been a surge in mobile web browsing. What does this have to do with your company you might ask? Your beautifully designed website most likely degrades into a mass of text and unstructured content when viewed through a mobile web browser. As one might imagine this is very unattractive to potential clients and customers. They expect your site to be a reflection of your company’s standards and legitimacy.

I, for one, am quick to leave an e-commerce site simply because it does not appeal to me visually. I tend to have a gut instinct that these poorly designed sites might be lacking in other areas as well, potentially security. Although I don’t expect every website to have a separate design for mobile web browsers, I do believe individuals will come to expect such things in the future. If you want to stay ahead of the curve you might consider an alternate style for mobile web browsers, which can only increase your companies’ overall visibility. The web is no longer confined to a laptop or desktop, it is now mobile.

If you aren’t sold yet, have a look at this CNET article entitled “Mobile Browsing becoming mainstream.” Please make note that this article was written early 2006. That’s over 2 and a half years ago! If you haven’t seen the Iphone predicted sales you might want to take a look at this report by AppleInsider. With that kind of sales forecast it’s no wonder everyone and their brother is jumping ship to the more attractive (and lucrative) touch phone market.

I believe now would be the appropriate time to link you to the ever-growing selection of touch phones. I won’t go about re-inventing the wheel here and creating an overview of all the new touch screen phones when others have already tedius task for me.

Lastly, I highly recommend you find somebody with a new touch phone and try visiting one of these sites as an example. Some are clearly better than others, but the concept is the same: maximize exposure to your clients/customers. What better way than to be accessible 24/7 wherever they go?
