Mode likes to sponsor the occasional good deed and stay involved in the Charlotte area, and sometimes that aligns with an incredibly fun event. As the token bike nut around here, I suggested that Mode sponsor myself and teammate Alex Giles (significant other of our own Caresse Duford) in the New Belgium Brewing Urban Assault Ride, in return for some strategic advertising of course. Yes, the shirt is a parody of our “made by mode” logo.
This city-hopping event involves a series of checkpoint challenges scattered throughout the city. Its up to each team to plan their own route and return to the starting point, then ditch their bike for a tricycle ride to the finish. Overall, Team Mode came in 22nd out of 178 teams, traveling 25 miles and completing 7 checkpoints in 1 hour 56 minutes. Highlights included having to find and catch the hidden cyclist with the afro and tutu, and a frantic run down the Ray’s Splash Planet water slide.
Proceeds from race registration and beer sales went to local non-profits Charlotte-Area Bicycle Alliance (CABA) and Trips for Kids, both great causes. The event also touts its green credentials, using biodiesel to transport all their equipment from city to city and powering the start/finish line festivities entirely with solar panels.

Awesome. This is great guys.
Love the shirt.
Love the tiny trike limbo pic too.
I’ll drink to both.
Cheers.
