The team here at MODE is growing and we are very excited to introduce two new, very talented friends and colleagues (actually they’ve been with us for over a month now so this is a long overdue introduction). We couldn’t be more excited to have them as part of the team, so if you’re in the neighborhood stop by and introduce yourself or give ‘em a call and say hello. More »

BadManners Sans

BadManners Sans

Posted by Jessica Manner | Studio | Aug. 18, 2009

During the design phase of the new Mellow Mushroom website, a very cool opportunity presented itself: I had a chance to create my first typeface, BadManners Sans. The name references the quirky style of the face, but is also one of my many nicknames here at MODE. Don’t ask how I got the nickname “BadManners,” its a long story… More »

3 Golden Years at MODE.

3 Golden Years at MODE.

Posted by Maxim Vakhovskiy | Awards & Recognition, Inspiration, Studio, Uncategorized | Jul. 24, 2009
You know you’re hitting it big when your studio mates pull their money together to gift you commemorative bling, and not just any bling — a golden Georgé timepiece (Walmart exclusive). In my over three years at MODE, I’ve cried, I’ve laughed, I’ve eaten at Lang Van. Being tricked into working here didn’t turn out to be such a bad thing after all. Thank you for tolerating my peculiarities, keeping me off the streets and paying me enough to feed myself and my toy poodle.
Thank you MODE, thank you Georgé. I’ve made it.

July has been an exciting month for us here at MODE, earlier this month we celebrated the launch of the redesigned Mellow Mushroom website. We planned some low-key festivities around the studio and we knew our friends from Mellow Mushroom were going to join us in Charlotte for the launch, we were quite surprised however, to find that they had transported a mobile oven from their headquarters in Atlanta and were set up to bake pizzas in our parking lot. Posted by John Pietrafesa | Identity Design, Print Design, Studio | Mar. 20, 2009

We’re excited to announce that we’ve begun a comprehensive rebrand for Orlando-based QAS. Recognized by Inc. magazine four consecutive years as one of the fastest growing private companies in America, QAS is concentrated on new and evolving medical diagnostic technology for the consumer and physician markets. MODE will be working closely with the team at QAS to develop key collateral and visual standards across all mediums including printed collateral, advertising and interactive initiatives.

Based on the early success of the rebrand we’ve also been tapped to develop the 2008 annual report for QAS’s parent company, Inverness Medical Innovations. Headquartered in Boston, MA with 7500 employees worldwide and 1.6 billion in revenue, Inverness is a global leader in rapid diagnostic products. Inverness Medical Innovations has major research & development and operational centers in the US, UK, Germany and Israel, and manufacturing sites in the UK, China, Japan and the US.

Mellow Mushroom

Mellow Mushroom

If you live in the Southeast you’ve no doubt heard of a pizza place with a cult-like following called “Mellow Mushroom”. It turns out that what you thought was your local pizza joint is actually an Atlanta-based restaurant franchise with 80 plus locations scattered throughout the country, reaching as far West as Arizona. The trick is that each location is so amazingly localized and full of tremendous culture it always feels home grown.

MODE is excited to announce that we’ve been officially selected as the interactive partner to create the new Mellow Mushroom online experience. We’re honored to be collaborating with our new friends at Markham Unlimited in Miami, FL, who have been hard at work as Mellow Mushroom’s lead agency developing fantastic branding initiatives for the past year.

Keep a lookout for the new MellowMushroom.com and associated interactive campaigns in Summer of 2009.

…now if we can only convince them to re-open a location in Charlotte.

M-irthday Celebration

M-irthday Celebration

Posted by Ian Varrassi | Studio | Dec. 20, 2008

To celebrate Kelly’s 2nd Anniversary at MODE (or his 2nd M-irthday) we need to do something extra special–after all he’s the Director of Party Planning. We needed to do something big, something elaborate, something to really show him just how much we care. Something that we would all be talking about for the weeks to follow. Something like the time we filled Tyler’s work space with 200+ multi-colored balloons, for his birthday. A cake just wouldn’t do. It would take; 6 rolls of striped wrapping paper, 3 rolls of tape, a handful of unnamed individuals and a web cam to record the reveal, to really make it memorable.

Happy M-irthday Buddy!

The Office Nomad

The Office Nomad

Posted by Jessica Manner | Studio | Dec. 18, 2008

The office is buzzing with excitement over MODE’s big move across town, myself included. Talk of 10-foot glass walls, more individualized workspaces and a never-before-had break room complete with a full size refrigerator has the team anxious to step foot into the new building. While every one of the improvements tickles my fancy, I am most excited about all the new workspaces to choose from, and the possibility of having one that I can call my own, as I have not had that luxury at our current office. I live a nomadic lifestyle here in the office, changing desks every so often based on needs. More »

Titles

Titles

Posted by Kelly Brintle | Studio | Oct. 24, 2008

I was never really big on job titles at my previous employers, hell, at my last job I was listed as “Programmer I”, not even sure I know the difference between the tasks I am given here on a daily basis verses my last employer. Well actually, I take that back. I started working here Nov 2006 and was told I would be working on a large Enterprise Java Application, so I guess that makes me a “Java Developer.” As time went by, the titles began to pile up. Being from out of town and moving to a new city, I found myself going out often to meet new people in the Uptown Charlotte area and convincing co-workers to go to bars, concerts, and sporting events. It wasn’t long before I was telling my weekend stories on Monday morning to a very attentive audience. I had them hanging on my every word. These actions would soon gain me more respect in the office as I was the front-runner for the position of “Director of Fun Stuff”. More »

Creative Climate

Posted by Caresse Duford | Studio | Oct. 20, 2008

As a relative newcomer here at MODE (coming from ?What If! The Innovation Company), I have had the opportunity to witness the creative processes of two very different ‘creative’ companies. I came to MODE from a company that leads innovation projects and teaches their clients how to be more creative, so as you can imagine, I am inherently cognizant of my “creative climate” and how it affects workplace dynamics, both in my office and the client’s.
